Historical Background
ECEC Africa, as initiated by Eme Eteke, was borne out of anger fuelled by failed dreams. Thrilled by her inquisitive nature and innovations of young undergraduates of prestigious institutions in developed nations, she nurtured an ambition of becoming a notable Engineer.
However, her ambition soon hit the rock on gaining admission to study Mechanical engineering in one of the Nigerian Universities. Entrance into the University was the birth of dearth of her innovative drive. The reality of the school environment authenticated the words of the great philosopher, Tenderness Akwaukpohode Brown, that “certificate has grown and become so strong and powerful in our environment to the degree that it has driven away knowledge completely”
She found herself in an environment that paid no tribute to knowledge and innovations. People only put in efforts to attain a high CGPA, to secure jobs in multinational firms upon graduation. Saddened and disappointed by this twist of fate, she began to redirect her educational sail towards the western world. Following several unsuccessful attempts to leave the shores of Nigeria for a better education experience, and deciding to convert her anger to a driving force, she launched an NGO to address the challenges of intending female engineers at secondary schools.
In the course of passionately lending a helping hand to students, the burden for education began to grow and became very heavy on her, thus ECEC Africa.
