About Us
E Counseling and Educational Centre (aka ECEC Africa) is a non-profit organization incorporated on 2nd November 2020 under the laws of the Corporate Affairs Commission, Nigeria, to advocate for the Re-envisioning and Transformation of the African educational system. It is headquartered in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
ECEC Africa was birthed out of the myriad of problems bedeviling the educational system in Africa basically due to lack of political will by leaders to transform the system. Our programs include; Development of Educational databank, Scholarship facilitation, Readers' Club, Community Reading Campaign, Career guidance and counselling, Library development, Talent discovery and development, Vocational training, Capacity and entrepreneurial development, Character reformation amongst several others.
Over the years, we have visited 18 schools within Akwa Ibom and Rivers States on Career counselling, Reading sensitization and enlightenment campaigns on educational re-orientation through “the earlier the better” approach we adopted. We have provided Career guidance and counseling services (to help students take informed career decisions), organized holiday creativity hunt (to harness talents early), donated books to students and school libraries, canvassed for library development in rural communities, organized counseling seminars for teenagers in communities in Akwa Ibom State, and so forth.
On 11th of March 2022, we officially unveiled our organization, showcasing our blueprint and our milestones. The event was graced by students and eminent personalities from the academia, State ministry of education, the business world and people of keen interest in the improvement of education system and who have identified with our vision.
Our resolve to resuscitate and sustain reading culture in Africa beginning in Akwa Ibom State, led us to partner with both the State ministry of education and communities to institute Readers Club across schools in the State and community reading program in communities in Akwa Ibom State, all intentionally geared toward awakening reading consciousness and interest among pupils and students, to drive away unwholesome practices and characters in the school system. The loss of right histories, cultures, values and heritage, identity crises, poor self-image, surge in examination malpractices and social vices (particularly among teenagers) and lack of intellectual feats in the school system are all a resultant effect of poor reading culture.
We are making reading fun, competitive and rewarding, thus raising an informed society, wholeheartedly dedicated to the advancement of knowledge and qualitative education. Please aid us in putting books in the hand of every “child” and ensuring every school and community in Africa has a well-equipped-functioning library. We firmly believe that when we help children love books today, we have automatically empowered the youths to hate crimes tomorrow (Eme Eteke).
